After we painted the dining room I decided to change things out. I liked the decorations I had in there, but I was getting tired of them since they had been up for 6 years. That is about how long I keep things (6 or 7 years) and then change them out. I keep my paintings, but most decorations get put away. I took an online quiz to see what my style was and it came out "Wine Country" mixed with "traditional" and "country". I guess that means I like traditional country Italian. I am eclectic in my tastes and Wayne pretty much likes the same things, so it works out OK. In the long run though, I do have the most say and Wayne has said that at times when he didn't think he was going to like whatever I was doing, when all was said and done, he ended up liking it. I am not really into the shabby chic look but I did get this cabinet made from a vintage window that I really likes. The inside was painted black, but the objects just didn't show up inside so I painted it the wall color and like it much better. (You may need to enlarge to see it better)

The paintings are some of my own watercolors, the leaf platter on top was one I found at a garage sale for $1, the little sugar bowl on the top left was given to me for my wedding by my sister when she was 12. On the top right is a pottery pitcher made in Colorado.
The back of the cabinet is bead board and had two shelves, but Wayne added a third one for me so I had more display area. I collect pottery and silver pieces so I have them in here along with Wayne's Mom's salt and pepper shakers, a cute candy dish and angel from my friend Susan along with a collectible Lilliput cottage. Now I will more storage area to show off my Santa's when Christmas comes around again.

Little Bowls

I just love little bowls. I don't know why or when I started even noticing it but I have quite a few in my collection. My favorite are the antique or vintage ones. This is my smallest.

It's only about 3 inches across at the rim so you can see how
small it is as you compare it with the teaspoon.
These are my favorites. The white one is from an antique stare and the
yellow one is an antique reproduction. They are about 4 inches across at the rim.

The white bowl is new but conjures up times when it was filled with creme brulee' so I love it and the green one is a vintage bowl I got at a garage sale.

These are all about 4 inches across at the rim too. The one on the right is antique. My Grandma Eyre had some just like them so they invoke wonderful memories for me. We use them for mandarin oranges, sauces, pudding condiments or taco toppings. They are all too small to hold much else.
I guess I will have to admit that I love dishes of all kinds. I have 6 sets of dinnerware and many eclectic pieces of mismatched servings bowls. One of my sets of China used to be my Grandma Eyre's. Grandpa bought it for her during WW2 and it was made in Japan. Nobody wanted Japanese products at that time but Grandpa didn't care. Mom had it for a while and then passed it down to me. One of the other sets of dishes is actually Wayne's. He was on a quest to find the perfect dinner plate and we finally found them in Denver at a kitchen supply store. He likes dishes (and pans) too. When we go on vacation, you will inevitably find us at a kitchen outlet or restaurant supply store. The funny thing is, we don't cook that much any more. It's usually goulash or sandwiches on paper plates, but on Sunday, when the kids come over for dinner, we put out the good dishes and nice silverware and the little bowls.

Stacking

Little E learned to stack things for the first time a couple of weeks ago. He found that my baking cupboard was the only one I couldn't tie, rubber band or block shut, so he gets into it all the time.
He also found out that that's where the chocolate chips are kept. He always rearranges everything that is on the shelves. For some reason he usually takes both cocoa tins out first, and then the vintage Tupperware canisters, then the plastic Costco jars. This day he took everything out and started to stack things on top of each other. I use the empty Costco jars for my coconut, brown sugar, etc. and he found out that they can also be used as fun stacking toys so he tried every combination possible to get his stack as high as he is tall. He managed to do it.

This is the before picture.

Here is the first try...notice you have to hold your mouth a certain way to be able to stack correctly.

He's up to three high...look at that proud face which some how has the remnants of chocolate chips on it now. How did that happen?

Here's a different 3 high combo that didn't work.

Here is a 4 high that's pretty good, but not high enough.

Here is the best one.....now he's ready to knock it down, which he did many times as cousin Isabelle looks on. My baking cupboard will never be the same I fear.

Wayne's sister Jill Stubbs was in town for a summit meeting for work but managed to find the time to stay with us for a couple of days. Wayne, Jill and I went to the BYU/U of W women's basketball game on the 4th. It was a very good game that went into overtime and in the end Wyoming won. We were sitting just above the Wyoming team and didn't realize but the video camera kept passing by the team, and thus capturing Jill, Wayne and me eating our popcorn. It was pretty funny but I couldn't get my camera to snap the TV screen fast enough to capture us all. You were right, that it is Wayne just above the shoulder of Wyoming's coach. If the camera had slowed down enough to capture us better, you would have seen us all snarfing down hot dogs and popcorn. We didn't have time to eat dinner before we left and we were so hungry that by the time we finally got something to eat we looked rather silly just shoving it all in. However we were proud of Kristin Scheffler, #12 on the Wyo. team. She is from Lovell, Wyoming and lived right next door to Wayne's Mom and Dad. They watched her high school career and were very proud of her. She is a daughter of Laurie Minchow and a niece to Jimmy Minchow who owns a gas station and restaurants in Lovell. She is a freshman and already one of the best shooters so I am sure she will have a very good career as a Wyoming Cowgirl basketball player.

Kristin is #12 on the team and is a 5'11" guard.

Despite giving up a 12-point halftime lead, the Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team held on for a 57-55 overtime victory against the BYU Cougars on Wednesday night in Provo.
"This is a big win for our program," said UW head coach Joe Legerski. "This is a tremendous place to play and with eight freshmen and sophomores on the roster...it is a big win. I thought at the end BYU made more plays to get the game to overtime, and we are fortunate that one more shot fell for us in the end.

I know that this is a bad picture, but it's because I took it while watching the TV screen and the camera didn't like doing that. I kept getting lines running through it. You may be wondering why I took it anyway. Well, you need to do a little detective work here. Why DID I take it? You will probably want to click to enlarge and then look it over very carefully. Then leave me a comment and tell me why you think I took it. The date, which is cut off a little is March 4, 2009.

This is a tag item from cute Chels Winterholler's blog. This just happened to be the 6th picture in the 6th folder of my pictures file. You are supposed to tell about the picture so here it goes.
This is my good friend Jody from Montana. I have know her for over 30 years. We were young mothers together in the same ward in the early years and have stayed friends. We both moved to the heights and lived only a few blocks from each other for many years. I stole this picture from her blog. Isn't she classy? She is talented in photography, sewing, crafting, decorating her home, and herself. She does temple work, is a fab granny, and has a wicked sense of humor. She is also a traveling fool and is married to one of the funniest guys I know, who also happens to be the Bishop. Jody, thanks for being my friend, and I will probably call you for help on my blog book. It's not going real well. Now it's your turn. I tag Colett, Kee, Amy, Jody, Susan, and Margaret and anyone else who reads this.
